The Town of Chautauqua and the Chautauqua Lake & Watershed Management Alliance partnered to complete a roadside swales stabilization project within portions of the town within the Chautauqua Lake Watershed that will have a positive impact on the environmental health of Chautauqua Lake.

What is Roadside Swale?
A roadside swale is a contoured land area or ditch covered in plants,
designed to collect stormwater runoff and move it away from areas
where it can't soak into the ground.

How will it improve water quality?
By promoting sediment removal and infiltration & biofiltration
of stormwater runoff, thus increasing biodiversity, water quality, &
sustainability within the lake and helping to restore the local economy
and recreational value the lake provides.
